EU new car registrations fell -1.9% YoY in H1 2025, including a steep -7.3% YoY drop in June, as weak demand weighed on the auto sector.

  • Battery-electric vehicles captured 15.6% market share in H1 2025 (up from 12.5% in H1 2024), with unit sales up +35.1% in Germany and +19.5% in Belgium, but down -6.4% in France.
  • Hybrid-electric car registrations rose to 1.94 million units (+34.1% in France, +32.8% Spain), holding a 34.8% market share.
  • Plug-in hybrid sales jumped +41.6% YoY in June and reached 469,410 units YTD (8.4% market share), led by Germany (+55.1%) and Spain (+82.5%).
  • Petrol car sales declined -21.2% YTD to 28.4% share, with sharp drops in France (-33.7%) and Germany (-27.8%).
  • Diesel car registrations dropped -28.1% YTD to a 9.4% share, including a -34.1% YoY drop in June.
