EU new car registrations rose 1.3% YoY in April, but remained down -1.2% YoY for the year-to-date (YTD), with battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) capturing a 15.3% YTD market share.
- BEV sales grew 26.4% YTD to 558,262 units, led by Germany (+42.8%), Belgium (+31.3%), and the Netherlands (+6.4%), though France declined -4.4%.
- Hybrid-electric vehicle registrations rose 20.8% YTD, reaching 1.29 million units (35.3% market share), with strong gains in France (+44.9%) and Spain (+35.8%).
- Plug-in hybrid registrations increased 7.8% YTD, with a 7.9% market share, boosted by Germany (+46.6%) and Spain (+42.8%).
- Petrol car registrations dropped -20.6% YTD (market share: 28.6%), with sharp declines in France (-35.2%) and Germany (-26.6%).
- Diesel registrations fell -26.4% YTD, cutting the diesel market share to 9.6%.
