• In Quarter 4 2025, production output increased in all four main sectors; the largest positive contributor came from “manufacturing” (up 0.9%), supported by “electricity and gas” (up 3.1%), “mining and quarrying” (up 1.4%), and “water supply and sewerage” (up 0.7%).

• Overall, 7 of the 13 subsectors in “manufacturing” increased during Quarter 4 2025; the largest positive contributions came from “other manufacturing” (up 5.3%), “machinery and equipment” (up 4.6%), and “computer, electronic and optical products” (up 3.3%).

• In contrast to the quarterly rise, monthly production output was estimated to have decreased by 0.9% in December 2025; this follows a rise in November 2025 (up 1.3%) and October 2025 (up 1.7%).

• The fall in monthly production output in December 2025 resulted from widespread weakness, with a decrease in the following four sectors: “manufacturing” (down 0.5%), “electricity and gas” (down 1.7%), “water supply and sewerage” (down 2.4%), and “mining and quarrying” (down 0.7%).

• In total, 8 of the 13 manufacturing subsectors saw a monthly decrease in December 2025; the largest negative contributions at sub-section level came from “basic pharmaceuticals” (down 2.6%), “food products” (down 1.4%), and "chemical products” (down 5.0%).

• Annual production output was estimated to have increased 0.2% in 2025; this is the first annual rise in production since 2021.

Production output was estimated to have decreased by 0.1% during the three months to November 2025 compared with the three months to August 2025.

• The largest negative contributor to the three-monthly fall in November 2025 came from “manufacturing” (down 0.3%), supported by “mining and quarrying” (down 1.0%); this was partially offset by increases in “electricity and gas” (up 1.1%) and “water supply and sewerage” (up 0.4%).
• 7 of the 13 subsectors in “manufacturing” decreased during the three months to November 2025; this fall mainly came from within “transport equipment” (down 9.4%), specifically "motor vehicles" (down 18.9%).
• The fall in the three months to November 2025 for “manufacture of motor vehicles” is driven by the 29.5% fall in September 2025, reflecting the impact of a cyber incident; since then, the industry has partially recovered to near the August 2025 level, with monthly growths of 9.6% and 25.5% in October and November 2025.
• Monthly production output was estimated to have increased by 1.1% in November 2025; this follows a rise in October 2025 (up 1.3%) and a fall in September 2025 (down 1.4%).
• The rise in monthly production output in November 2025 resulted solely from strength in “manufacturing” (up 2.1%); this was partially offset by weakness in “mining and quarrying” (down 2.5%), “electricity and gas” (down 0.5%), and “water supply and sewerage” (down 0.6%).
• 7 of the 13 manufacturing subsectors saw a monthly increase in November 2025, with the largest positive contributions at sub-section level coming from "manufacture of transport equipment” (up 10.7%).

Production output was estimated to have decreased 0.5% during the three months to October 2025, compared with the three months to July 2025; this is the sixth consecutive fall in the three-month-on-three-month growth.

• The largest negative contributor to the three-monthly fall in October 2025 came from "manufacturing" (down 0.7%), supported by "mining and quarrying" (down 1.9%); this was partially offset by increases in "water supply and sewerage" (up 1.2%) and "electricity and gas" (up 0.3%).

• 6 of the 13 subsectors in "manufacturing" decreased during the three months to October 2025; this fall mainly came from "transport equipment" (down 8.7%).

• Monthly production output was estimated to have increased 1.1% in October 2025; this follows a fall in September 2025 (down 2.0%) and a rise in August 2025 (up 0.3%).

• The rise in monthly production output in October 2025 resulted from widespread strength across the four main sectors, with increases in "manufacturing" (up 0.5%), "mining and quarrying" (up 4.3%), "electricity and gas" (up 2.1%), and "water supply and sewerage" (up 1.5%).

• 6 of the 13 manufacturing subsectors saw a monthly increase in October 2025, with the largest positive contributions at subsector level coming from "manufacture of transport equipment (up 3.6%), caused by growth from "manufacture of motor vehicles" (up 9.5%); this growth was further supported by "manufacture of machinery" (up 4.4%) and "other manufacturing and repair" (up 2.8%).

Production output was estimated to have decreased 0.5% during Quarter 3 (July to Sept) 2025, compared with Quarter 2 (Apr to June) 2025.

• The largest negative contributor to the quarterly fall in Quarter 3 2025 came from "manufacturing" (down 0.8%), supported by "mining and quarrying" (down 1.5%); this was partially offset by increases in "electricity and gas" (up 0.7%) and "water supply and sewerage" (up 0.6%).
• 6 of the 13 subsectors in "manufacturing" decreased during Quarter 3 2025; the largest negative contributions came from "transport equipment" (down 4.5%), "basic pharmaceutical products" (down 4.3%) and "chemical products" (down 5.6%).
• Monthly production output was estimated to have decreased 2.0% in September 2025; this follows a rise in August 2025 (up 0.3%) and a fall in July 2025 (down 0.1%).
• The fall in monthly production output in September 2025 resulted from widespread weakness across the four main sectors, with decreases in "manufacturing" (down 1.7%), "electricity and gas" (down 3.4%), "mining and quarrying" (down 3.4%), and "water supply and sewerage" (down 0.7%).
• 7 of the 13 manufacturing subsectors saw a monthly decrease in September 2025, with the largest negative contribution at industry level coming from "manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers" (down 28.6%); this contributed negative 1.29 percentage points to the overall monthly fall in September 2025.

UK production output fell -1.3% in the three months to July 2025, the weakest performance since December 2023, reflecting broad-based declines across manufacturing, energy, and mining.

• On a monthly basis, production output fell -0.9% in July, reversing June’s +0.7% increase and extending May’s -1.3% decline.

• Manufacturing dropped -1.1% over the three-month period, the first quarterly decline since January 2025, with 9 of 13 subsectors contributing to the fall.

• Electricity & gas output fell -5.1% and mining & quarrying declined -1.8%, both weighing on overall production.

• Water supply & sewerage provided a partial offset, rising +1.6% in the three months to July.

• July’s monthly drop was driven by manufacturing (-1.3%) and mining (-2.0%), while electricity & gas (+2.0%) and water supply (+0.8%) provided some support.

• Within manufacturing, computer, electronic & optical products fell -7.0% MoM, pharmaceuticals declined -4.5%, and chemicals dropped -4.6%, leading the sectoral weakness.

UK production output rose +0.7% MoM in June 2025, after falling -1.3% in May and posting no growth in April. Output fell -0.3% QoQ in Q2 2025.

• Manufacturing rose +0.5% MoM, with 8 of 13 subsectors up; computer, electronic & optical products jumped +8.8% and was the largest contributor.
• Electricity & gas output increased +3.3% MoM but fell -6.8% QoQ, the main drag on quarterly growth.
• Water supply & sewerage rose +0.5% MoM and +2.1% QoQ.
• Mining & quarrying fell -0.4% MoM and -0.3% QoQ.

UK production output fell -0.9% MoM in May 2025, marking the third consecutive monthly decline following drops of -0.6% in April and -0.2% in March. Output rose +0.2% QoQ in the three months to May.

• Manufacturing output declined -1.0% MoM, with 9 of 13 subsectors down; pharmaceuticals (-4.2%), transport equipment (-1.3%), and basic metals (-1.8%) were key drags.
• Mining & quarrying fell -3.2% MoM, while water supply & sewerage rose +0.8% and electricity & gas increased +0.3%.
• QoQ, manufacturing rose +0.4%, while water supply & sewerage contributed strongly with a +3.7% gain.
• Declines in electricity & gas (-2.8%) and mining & quarrying (-1.6%) offset some of the quarterly gains.
