UK Index of Production: May 2025
UK production output fell -0.9% MoM in May 2025, marking the third consecutive monthly decline following drops of -0.6% in April and -0.2% in March. Output rose +0.2% QoQ in the three months to May.
- Manufacturing output declined -1.0% MoM, with 9 of 13 subsectors down; pharmaceuticals (-4.2%), transport equipment (-1.3%), and basic metals (-1.8%) were key drags.
- Mining & quarrying fell -3.2% MoM, while water supply & sewerage rose +0.8% and electricity & gas increased +0.3%.
- QoQ, manufacturing rose +0.4%, while water supply & sewerage contributed strongly with a +3.7% gain.
- Declines in electricity & gas (-2.8%) and mining & quarrying (-1.6%) offset some of the quarterly gains.
