UK production output fell -1.3% in the three months to July 2025, the weakest performance since December 2023, reflecting broad-based declines across manufacturing, energy, and mining.

  • On a monthly basis, production output fell -0.9% in July, reversing June’s +0.7% increase and extending May’s -1.3% decline.

  • Manufacturing dropped -1.1% over the three-month period, the first quarterly decline since January 2025, with 9 of 13 subsectors contributing to the fall.

  • Electricity & gas output fell -5.1% and mining & quarrying declined -1.8%, both weighing on overall production.

  • Water supply & sewerage provided a partial offset, rising +1.6% in the three months to July.

  • July’s monthly drop was driven by manufacturing (-1.3%) and mining (-2.0%), while electricity & gas (+2.0%) and water supply (+0.8%) provided some support.

  • Within manufacturing, computer, electronic & optical products fell -7.0% MoM, pharmaceuticals declined -4.5%, and chemicals dropped -4.6%, leading the sectoral weakness.
