France Consumer Confidence: August 2025

France’s consumer confidence index fell 1 pt to 87 in August 2025, its lowest since October 2023, reflecting weaker expectations for finances and standard of living.

  • Households’ expected financial situation worsened to -16 (Jul: -14), while views on their past financial situation improved slightly to -21 (Jul: -22).

  • Savings intentions eased to 35 (Jul: 42) but remain well above average; current saving capacity held steady at 17.

  • Views on the standard of living continued to deteriorate, with past at -74 (Jul: -71) and future at -64 (Jul: -62), both far below long-term averages.

  • Unemployment fears edged up to 56 (Jul: 54), still well above historical norms.

  • Future inflation expectations rose sharply to -25 (Jul: -30), the highest since March 2023, while perceptions of past inflation fell to -9 (Jul: -6).
