Richmond Fed Manufacturing Survey: April 2025

The Richmond Fed Manufacturing Index fell to -13 in April from -4 in March, marking a broad deterioration in Fifth District manufacturing activity.

  • Shipments dropped -13 pts to -17, and New Orders declined -11 pts to -15.
  • Future indicators declined sharply, with Future Shipments down -27 pts to -20 and Future New Orders down -32 pts to -26.
  • Employment eased to -5 from -1, while Local Business Conditions fell -8 pts to -21.
  • Order Backlogs declined -23 pts to -24; Vendor Lead Times fell to 1.

  • Prices Paid growth accelerated notably to 5.37% (from 3.75% previously), and expectations for Prices Paid was 8.38% YoY, another increase from the jump to 7.16% previously.
  • Prices Received also rose to 2.65% (up from 2.34%), and expectations for Prices Received growth also rose to 5.63% (up from 4.00%).
