ACEA New Car Registrations: December 2024
EU new car registrations increased 5.1% YoY in December to 910,505, the fastest growth since April. The regional differences were varied significantly with Spain up 28.8% YoY, France up 1.5% YoY, and Germany and Italy both seeing sharp declines of -7.1% YoY and -4.9% YoY respectively. Battery EV sales declined -10.2% YoY due to weakness in Germany and France.
For the full year 2024, new car registrations rose slightly, increasing by 0.8% to around 10.6 million units. Spain continued to show resilience with a solid 7.1% growth rate. In contrast, declines were observed in France (-3.2%), Germany (-1%), and Italy, with a slight drop of 0.5%. Battery EV registrations were down -5.9% for the year and the total market share fell -1 ppt to 13.6%.
