The Drewry World Container Index increased 2% WoW to $3,986 in the week through January 9th. This is the highest composite reading since mid-September 2024.

The routes seeing increases are Shanghai-New York and Shanghai-Los Angeles as US firms attempt to front run Chinese imports ahead of the potential Trump tariffs. Specifically, the routes were up 10% WoW and 70% YoY and 13% WoW and 96% YoY respectively. All other routes saw rates drop or increase very modestly last week.
