The S&P Global UK Consumer Sentiment Index rose to 47.8 in September from 47.0 in August, reaching a 14-month high and signaling improved household outlook despite persistent financial pressures.

  • The Household Finance Index climbed to 48.0 from 46.0, with current finances at 45.2 (a 51-month high) and expected finances at 50.8 (a 14-month high).

  • The Spending Sentiment Index edged down to 41.1 from 41.2, marking a 2-month low as cash available to spend fell to 42.9, while views on major purchases improved to 39.4 (a 14-month high).

  • The Labour Market Sentiment Index rose to 55.2 from 54.7, a 14-month high, supported by job security at 54.0, activity at work at 57.1 (a 50-month high), and income from employment at 54.4 (a 9-month high).

  • The Debt Sentiment Index slipped to 50.0 from 50.2, a 2-month low, though underlying components showed debt levels and credit demand both at 2-month highs.

  • The Savings Index improved to 44.6 from 43.1, its strongest level in 10 months, indicating households are setting aside more despite inflationary headwinds.
