French consumer confidence ticked lower in December by -1 pt to 89. The small drop puts sentiment at the lowest in 2024, but not by much. Consumers’ assessment of financial situations both past and present were unchanged from November.

The main subsegments that moved negatively was the Future Standard of Living index down -4 pts to -57 (the lowest since April 2023), and the Unemployment Prospects index up 10 pts to 53. There was also a reversal in inflation expectations as less consumers saw prices declining.
