The Treasury International Capital (TIC) data showed a net inflow of $311.1 billion in May 2025 from foreign acquisitions of long-term securities, short-term U.S. securities, and banking flows.

  • Foreign residents bought $318.5 billion in long-term U.S. securities, including $287.5 billion from private investors and $31.1 billion from official institutions.
  • U.S. residents increased their holdings of long-term foreign securities with net purchases of $59.1 billion.
  • After adjustments, estimated net foreign sales of long-term securities totaled -$259.4 billion.
  • Foreign holdings of U.S. Treasury bills rose slightly by $0.5 billion, while other short-term custody liabilities rose $10.3 billion.
  • U.S. banks’ net dollar liabilities to foreign residents increased by $41.4 billion.
