UK construction output rose +0.6% in the three months to July 2025, maintaining growth momentum but at a slower pace than in Q2.
- Monthly construction output grew +0.2% in July, following +0.3% in June, marking two consecutive months of modest expansion.
- New work increased +1.0% QoQ, supported by infrastructure new work (+2.1%), while repair & maintenance edged up just +0.1%.
- Private housing repair & maintenance was a key driver, rising +3.8% over the three-month period.
- July’s growth came entirely from new work (+0.3%), with repair & maintenance flat (0.0%).
- At the sector level, five of nine sectors rose in July, led by private housing R&M (+2.4%) and private new housing (+1.2%).

UK construction output rose +1.2% QoQ in Q2 2025, supported by gains in both new work and repair & maintenance, though new orders weakened sharply.
- New work increased +1.1% QoQ, while repair & maintenance grew +1.4%, both contributing to the quarterly rise.
- On a monthly basis, output rose +0.3% in June, following -0.5% in May and +0.9% in April, marking a partial rebound.
- June’s growth came entirely from repair & maintenance (+1.2%), while new work fell -0.4%.
- Within R&M, private housing rose +3.7% and non-housing increased +0.8%, providing the strongest support.
- Five of nine sectors expanded in June, led by housing-related repair activity.
- Total new orders dropped -8.3% QoQ (£976m), driven by declines in infrastructure and private commercial projects.

UK construction output fell -0.6% MoM in May 2025, ending a three-month streak of gains, following a +0.8% MoM rise in April.
- The decline was driven entirely by a -2.1% MoM drop in repair & maintenance, while new work rose +0.6% MoM.
- Non-housing R&M fell -2.4% MoM and private housing R&M declined -1.8% MoM.
- Over the 3 months to May, total output rose +1.2% QoQ, with new work up +0.9% and repair & maintenance up +1.5%.
- Five of nine sectors saw monthly declines in May.

UK construction output rose 0.9% MoM in April 2025, marking the third consecutive monthly gain, following a 0.5% MoM rise in March. Output increased 0.5% in the three months to April, supported by broad-based strength.
- New work rose 1.4% MoM in April, while repair & maintenance increased 0.3% MoM.
- Sector leaders were infrastructure new work (+2.0% MoM) and private housing R&M (+1.5% MoM).
- Over the 3-month period, new work rose 0.9% QoQ, led by infrastructure new work (+3.5% QoQ).
- Repair & maintenance rose 0.1% QoQ, with public housing R&M up 2.7% QoQ.
- Six of nine construction sectors saw MoM gains in April.

UK construction output rose 0.5% MoM in March 2025, following a 0.2% MoM gain in February (revised down) and a -0.3% MoM decline in January. Output was flat (0.0%) QoQ in Q1 2025 as growth in new work was offset by a drop in repair & maintenance.
- New work rose 0.6% MoM in March, while repair & maintenance increased 0.4% MoM.
- Quarterly, new work rose 0.9% QoQ, but repair & maintenance fell -1.2% QoQ
- Private housing new work (+2.3% MoM) and infrastructure new work (+2.5% MoM) were the largest contributors in March.
- Warmer, milder weather was cited as a positive factor for site activity.
- Construction new orders surged 26.6% QoQ and 10.5% YoY in Q1 2025, led by infrastructure and private industrial work.

UK construction output rose 0.4% MoM in February, following a -0.3% MoM decline in January. On an annual basis, construction output was up 1.6% YoY, in line with expectations.
- Growth came from both new work (+0.3% MoM) and repair & maintenance (+0.5% MoM).
- Public other new work (+4.4% MoM) and public housing repair & maintenance (+4.0% MoM) were the largest contributors.
- Output was flat (0.0%) in the three months to February, as a 1.2% rise in new work was offset by a -1.5% decline in repair & maintenance.

Construction output had a basically negligible impact on growth, contributing just-1 bps. The sector contracted by -0.2% MoM in January following a -0.2% MoM decline in December.
- New construction work was down -0.7% MoM and partially offset by an increase of 0.4% MoM in repair and maintenance activity.
- The decline was pronounced in private commercial new work (-6.1% MoM) and private housing new work (-1.8% MoM) which is a particularly pessimistic signal for the UK economy.
- While construction output declined in the last two months, a strong 0.6% MoM increase in November led to growth of 0.4% in the last three months with new work up 1.4% in the same period.

Construction output fell -0.2% MoM but is estimated to have increased by 0.5% QoQ in Q4 2024.
- This came solely from an increase in new work (+1.2% QoQ), as repair and maintenance fell by -0.4% QoQ.
- The monthly construction decline came from a fall in repair and maintenance (-1.8% MoM) as new work grew by 1.1% MoM.
- Total construction new orders fell by -2.4% QoQ (£231 million).
- Annual construction output increased by 0.4% in 2024 compared with 2023; this is the fourth consecutive year of annual growth.

Construction output growth was also positive in November, up 0.4% MoM and 0.2% YoY (vs 0.1% YoY expected). This increase in monthly output came from rises in both new work (+0.3% MoM) and repair and maintenance (+0.5% MoM). Commercial new work drove the output growth, up 3.1% MoM.
