Spain’s retail sales rose +0.4% MoM in August 2025 (seasonally and calendar adjusted), while annual growth eased to +4.5% YoY from July’s +4.7%, showing continued resilience but at a slower pace.
- The adjusted YoY rate of +4.5% was 0.2 ppts lower than July, while the unadjusted series slowed to +3.0% YoY (down 1.3 ppts).
- MoM sales growth of +0.4% was 0.8 ppts stronger than July, indicating a firmer short-term trend.
- Excluding service stations, retail sales rose +0.3% MoM, suggesting broad-based underlying strength.
- Food sales inched up +0.1% MoM, while non-food products increased +0.8%, supporting the overall gain.
- By distribution type, small chain stores posted the largest MoM rise at +1.9%.

Spain’s retail sales fell -0.4% MoM in July 2025 (seasonally and calendar adjusted) but rose +4.7% YoY, with annual growth slowing from June’s strong 6.2% YoY pace.
- The adjusted YoY rate of +4.7% was 1.5 ppts lower than June, while the unadjusted series showed +4.3% YoY, down 2.0 ppts from the prior month.
- MoM sales declined -0.4%, a 1.6 ppt drop from June’s gain, with small chain stores posting the sharpest fall (-1.9%).
- Excluding service stations, sales eased -0.1% MoM, showing broad underlying weakness.
- Food sales dipped -0.1% MoM, while non-food products declined -0.3%.

Spain’s retail sales fell -0.2% MoM but were up 3.6% YoY in March, unchanged from the annual rate in February.

Spain’s retail sales fell -1.4% MoM in January, the largest monthly decline since December 2023, and on an annual basis were up 2.2% YoY, down from 4.0% YoY in December.
- Ex gas stations, retail sales were still down -1.4% MoM as gas station sales fell -0.4% MoM.
- The decline was led by non-food sales down -2.0% MoM. Food sales were only down -0.1% MoM.
- Department stores noted a large decline in sales of -1.7% MoM.
- Retail employment was down -1.7% MoM in January but up 1.4% YoY

Spanish retail sales grew 1.5% MoM and 4.0% YoY (vs 0.5% YoY) in December. This is the joint highest annual rate in almost two years, and the monthly rate was the strongest since November 2023. Food sales were up 1.0% MoM, and non-food sales were up 2.2% MoM. Gas station sales were also up strongly at 1.7% MoM.
