Restaurant operators reported a modest improvement in same-store sales in October.

Forty-eight percent of restaurant operators said their same-store sales rose between October 2024 and October 2025, according to the National Restaurant Association’s monthly tracking survey. That was up from 45% in September.

Thirty-five percent of operators said their sales declined in October, down from 44% in September.

In contrast to the positive sales readings, restaurant operators continued to report customer traffic declines.

Thirty-three percent of operators said their customer traffic rose between October 2024 and October 2025, compared to 34% in September. Forty-eight percent of restaurant operators reported lower traffic in October, down from 52% in September.

October represented the ninth consecutive month in which operators reported a net decline in customer traffic.
Restaurant operators reported mixed same-store sales results in September, continuing the trend of the last several months.

Forty-five percent of restaurant operators said their same-store sales rose between September 2024 and September 2025, while 44% reported a sales decline.

That was roughly on par with the readings in August, according to the National Restaurant Association’s monthly tracking survey.

While same-store sales readings held up in September, restaurant operators reported a deterioration in customer traffic levels.

Forty-one percent of operators said their sales declined in April, compared to 45% in March.

In contrast to the modest same-store sales increase in April, restaurant operators continued to report dampened customer traffic readings.

Although April’s results were an improvement from softer readings in February and March, it still represented the third consecutive month of negative customer traffic.

Only 18% of restaurant operators said their same-store sales rose between February 2024 and February 2025, according to the National Restaurant Association’s monthly tracking survey. That was down sharply from 51% of operators who reported higher sales in January.

Sixty-three percent of operators said their sales declined in February, up from 35% in January.

Restaurant operators also reported a deterioration in customer traffic readings in February.

Only 13% of operators said their customer traffic rose between February 2024 and February 2025, down from 46% of operators who reported higher traffic in January.

Thirty-seven percent of restaurant operators said their same-store sales rose between December 2023 and December 2024, according to the National Restaurant Association’s monthly tracking survey. That was down from 59% of operators who reported higher sales in November.

Forty-one percent of operators said their sales declined in December, up from 32% in November.

Restaurant operators also reported softer customer traffic in December relative to the previous two months.

Fifty-nine percent of restaurant operators said their same-store sales rose between November 2023 and November 2024, according to the National Restaurant Association’s monthly tracking survey. That was up from 51% in October and the highest reading in 16 months.
