• MBA Mortgage Applications: Week of August 22nd 2025-08-27 07:00

  

  The MBA Mortgage Applications Composite Index edged down -0.5% WoW as mortgage rates remained basically unchanged last week.

  • The Purchase Index increased 2.2% WoW, while the Refinance Index offset that increase with a -3.5% WoW decline.
  • Total purchase applications were down -0.1% WoW but up 25.1% YoY, and total refinance applications dropped -3.5% WoW but were up 18.6% YoY.
  • The 30-year fixed mortgage rate edged up 1 bps to 6.69%, and the 15-year fixed mortgage rate increased 7 bps to 6.03%.

  The MBA Mortgage Applications Composite Index dropped -1.4 WoW last week, a slight reversal from a surge in applications in the week before.

  • The Purchase Index was basically unchanged, up just 0.1 WoW, and the Refinance Index dropped -3.1% WoW after a large jump in the week before.
  • The total number of purchase applications fell -1.6% WoW but was up 23.3% YoY, and the total number of refinance applications fell -3.1% WoW but was up 22.8% YoY.
  • The 30-year fixed mortgage rate increased 1 bps to 6.68% after a -10 bps decline in the week before. The 15-year fixed mortgage rate increased 3 bps to 5.96%.

  The MBA Mortgage Applications Composite Index increased 10.9% WoW last week, driven by a surge in refinancing activity, as mortgage rates dropped to the lowest since the beginning of April.

  • The Purchase Index increased 1.4% WoW, and the Refinance Index surged 23.0% WoW.
  • The total number of purchasing applications increased just 0.5% WoW and was up 16.7% YoY, and the total number of refinancing applications jumped 23.0% WoW and 7.5% YoY.
  • The 30-year fixed mortgage rate dropped -10 bps to 6.67%, and the 15-year fixed mortgage rate also dropped -10 bps to 5.93%.

  • The Purchase Index increased 1.5% WoW, and the Refinance Index jumped 5.2% WoW.
  • The total number of purchase applications increased 1.2% WoW and were up 18.2% YoY, and the total number of refinancing applications increased 5.2% WoW and were up 17.5% YoY.
  • The 30-year fixed mortgage rate dropped -6 bps to 6.77%, and the 15-year fixed mortgage rate eased -9 bps to 6.03%.

  The MBA Mortgage Applications Composite Index dropped -3.8% WoW last week as mortgage rates remained elevated.

  • The Purchase Index fell -5.8% WoW, and the Refinance Index eased -1.1% WoW.
  • The total number of purchasing applications fell -5.0% WoW (but still up 17.0% YoY), and the total number of refinancing applications fell -1.1% WoW (but still up 29.5% YoY).
  • The 30-year fixed mortgage rate fell -1 bps to 6.83%, and the 15-year fixed mortgage rate fell -2 bps to 6.12%.

  • The Purchase Index increased 3.4% WoW, and the Refinance Index fell -2.6% WoW.
  • The total number of purchasing applications increased 3.9% WoW while the total number of refinance applications dropped -2.6% WoW.
  • The 30-year fixed mortgage rate increased 2 bps to 6.84%, and the 15-year fixed mortgage rate fell -2 bps to 6.14%.

  The MBA Mortgage Applications Composite Index dropped -10.0% WoW last week as mortgage rates ticked higher.

  • The Purchase Index dropped -11.8% WoW, and the Refinance Index dropped -7.4% WoW.
  • The total number of purchasing applications increased 10.5% WoW, and the total number of refinancing applications increased 15.7% WoW, both smaller increases than what is normal for this week.
  • The 30-year fixed mortgage rate increased 5 bps to 6.82%, and the 15-year fixed mortgage rate increased 12 bps to 6.16%.

  The MBA Mortgage Applications Composite Index jumped 9.4% WoW last week as the index rose for the third straight week.

  • The Purchase Index increased 9.4% WoW, and the Refinance Index increased 9.2% WoW.
  • Total purchase applications fell -12.5% WoW, and total refinance applications fell -12.7% WoW. Both declines were smaller than what is normal seasonally.
  • The 30-year fixed mortgage rate fell -2 bps to 6.77%, the lowest since the first week of April and down -23 bps from a year ago. The 15-year fixed mortgage rate dropped -2 bps to 6.04%.

  The MBA Mortgage Applications Composite Index increased 2.7% WoW last week as mortgage rates fell.

  • The Purchase Index was basically unchanged, up just 0.1% WoW, while the Refinance Index increased 6.5% WoW.
  • Total purchase applications increased 13.4% WoW and 15.7% YoY, and total refinance applications were up 18.3% WoW and 39.6% YoY.
  • The 30-year fixed mortgage rate fell -9 bps to 6.79%, the lowest since the first week of April and down -24 bps from a year ago. The 15-year fixed mortgage rate dropped -5 bps to 6.06%.

  The MBA Mortgage Applications Composite Index increased 1.1% WoW last week, a slight increase in activity despite rates ticking up.

  • The Purchase Index edged down -0.4% WoW, and the Refinance Index increased 3.0% WoW.
  • Total purchase applications dropped -11.4% WoW but still up 12.1% YoY, and total refinancing applications fell 7.3% WoW but still up 29.1% WoW.
  • The 30-year fixed mortgage rate ticked up 4 bps to 6.88% while the 15-year fixed mortgage rate fell -3 bps to 6.11%.

  The MBA Mortgage Applications Composite Index fell -2.6% WoW last week after a 12.5% WoW surge in the week before.

  • The Purchase Index fell -3.0% WoW, and the Refinance Index fell -2.1% WoW.
  • Total purchase applications last week were down -4.6% WoW, and total refinance applications dropped -2.1% WoW. However, both are still well above where they were a year ago, up 14.1% YoY and 25.3% YoY, respectively.
  • The 30-year fixed mortgage rate fell -9 bps to 6.84%, the lowest since the beginning of May, and the 15-year fixed mortgage rate fell -2 bps to 6.14%.

  The MBA Mortgage Applications Composite Index jumped 12.5% WoW last week, the largest weekly gain since the first week of April.

  • The Purchase Index increased 10.3% WoW, and the Refinance Index increased 15.6% WoW.
  • The total number of purchasing applications increased 20.2% WoW and 19.5% YoY, and the total number of refinancing applications were up 28.5% WoW and 27.5% YoY.
  • Despite the uptick in activity, the 30-year fixed mortgage rate increased 1 bps to 6.93% while the 15-year fixed mortgage rate dropped -9 bps to 6.16%.
