Total machinery orders rose +14.7% MoM and +9.9% YoY in September 2025 to ¥137.8 billion, a strong rebound driven by both domestic and foreign demand.

Domestic demand increased +34.1% MoM and +3.0% YoY to ¥42.8 billion, reflecting a sharp monthly recovery after prior weakness.
Foreign demand rose +7.6% MoM and +13.3% YoY to ¥95.0 billion, continuing to outpace domestic demand and reinforcing export-led growth.
YTD total orders for 2025 reached ¥1,163.8 billion, up +5.8% YoY, indicating steady overall expansion through the first nine months of the year.
YTD domestic demand totaled ¥332.4 billion, down -0.4% YoY, highlighting persistent softness in internal investment despite recent gains.
YTD foreign demand stood at ¥831.4 billion, up +8.5% YoY, underscoring that external markets remain the main driver of order growth.

Domestic demand declined -10.0% MoM and -0.9% YoY, reflecting broad weakness across categories, especially motor vehicles (-23.9% MoM, -14.8% YoY).
Foreign demand dropped -5.0% MoM but rose +12.3% YoY, continuing to provide the main support for total orders.
General machinery slipped -2.4% MoM and -10.1% YoY, though construction machinery surged +157.9% MoM and +23.2% YoY, partly offsetting declines elsewhere.
Motor vehicles and parts weakened sharply (-23.9% MoM, -14.8% YoY for vehicles; -17.5% MoM, -10.5% YoY for parts), contributing heavily to the domestic shortfall.
Electrical machinery fell -5.6% MoM but rose +30.2% YoY, while precision machinery dropped -31.5% MoM yet gained +23.1% YoY; combined, the sector was up +27.4% YoY.
Ships and aircraft rose +13.5% MoM and +34.7% YoY, with aircraft orders up +109.6% YoY, supporting overall machinery demand.
Sales decreased -3.4% MoM and -6.3% YoY, while backlog orders edged up +0.6% MoM but remained down -8.9% YoY, highlighting ongoing pipeline erosion.

Japan’s total machinery orders fell -3.6% MoM in July but were up +3.6% YoY, both in line with the preliminary estimates, with domestic demand weakening while foreign demand provided moderate support.

Domestic demand dropped -11.1% MoM and -0.7% YoY, led by declines in general machinery (-18.4% MoM), while motor vehicles (+15.9% MoM) partly offset the fall.
Total machinery orders were down -10.4% MoM and -1.2% YoY in July, and in the first 7 months of the year, orders are down -7.8% compared to the same period last year.
Aircraft orders posted strong gains (+107.8% MoM, +115.5% YoY), offsetting some of the weakness in other machinery categories.
Foreign demand edged down -0.4% MoM but rose +5.3% YoY, continuing to underpin overall orders.
Sales decreased -6.7% MoM but grew +2.4% YoY, with sales of NC machine tools tracking a similar pattern (-6.2% MoM; +2.2% YoY).
Backlog orders rose +1.1% MoM but declined -10.9% YoY, showing a continued erosion of pipeline momentum despite monthly stabilization.
