Total Japanese construction orders increased 14.0% YoY in May after a gain of 52.7% YoY in April.
- Domestic construction orders surged 11.1% YoY while foreign orders were up 66.6% YoY.
- Private orders were up 19.2% YoY while public orders were down -9.9% YoY.
- Private manufacturing construction orders were down -23.5% YoY and offset by a surge in non-manufacturing orders up 44.7% YoY.
- Orders in building construction were up 11.3% YoY, and civil engineering orders were positive for the first time in four months at 18.9% YoY.
Total Japanese construction orders increased 52.7% YoY in April after a gain of 3.5% YoY in March.
- Domestic construction orders surged 54.2% YoY while foreign orders were down -27.1% YoY.
- Private orders were up 85.0% YoY while public orders were down -8.9% YoY.
- Private manufacturing construction orders were down -9.7% YoY and offset by a surge in non-manufacturing orders up 118.7% YoY.
- Orders in building construction were up 90.7% YoY, but that was offset by the -25.0% YoY decline in civil engineering.
Total Japanese construction orders increased 3.5% YoY in March after a decline of -3.3% YoY in February.
- Domestic construction orders grew 7.4% YoY while foreign orders were down -58.1% YoY.
- Private orders were up 15.3% YoY while public orders were down -8.9% YoY.
- Private manufacturing construction orders were up 22.7% YoY.
- Orders in building construction were up 16.4% YoY, but that was offset by the -15.4% YoY decline in civil engineering.
Total Japanese construction orders increased 4.4% MoM but were down -3.3% YoY in February as the seasonal bounce was not as strong as was seen in the previous year.
- Domestic construction orders grew 9.2% MoM but were down -1.3% YoY.
- Private orders were up 0.5% YoY while public orders were down -7.9% YoY.
- Orders in building construction were up 4.9% YoY, but that was more than offset by the -15.7% YoY decline in civil engineering.
Japanese construction orders were up 12.2% YoY in January, up from 8.1% YoY in December.
- Domestic orders were up 8.5% YoY with private orders up 7.7% YoY and public orders falling -1.9% YoY.
- Building construction orders were up 9.0% YoY, and civil engineering orders were up 19.5% YoY.
Total construction orders were up 8.1% YoY in December after a -10.2% YoY decline in November.
- Domestic orders were up 6.3% YoY as a particularly large increase in private orders (+12.1% YoY) offset a decline in public orders (-13.7% YoY).
- Building construction orders reversed from a decline of -10.6% YoY to a surge of 9.5% YoY.
- For the full year of 2024, construction orders were up 8.9% YoY.
Japanese construction orders declined -27.0% MoM and -10.2% YoY in November.
- Total private orders were down -24.3% MoM and -8.8% YoY while total public orders declined -33.7% MoM and -10.8% YoY.
- On a YTD basis, however, orders are 9.0% higher than the same period in 2023.
