Italy’s exports rose +4.0% MoM and imports increased +3.3% MoM in June 2025, with growth in both EU and non-EU trade flows.
- Non-EU exports rose +6.3% MoM and EU exports were up +1.8% MoM; non-EU imports grew +5.2% MoM and EU imports increased +2.0% MoM.
- On a quarterly basis, exports fell -2.6% and imports declined -1.7%.
- YoY, exports rose +4.9% (+5.2% non-EU, +4.6% EU) and imports rose +4.8% (+10.1% non-EU, +1.2% EU).
- The trade surplus was €5.41 billion, driven by a €5.48 billion non-EU surplus and partially offset by a €69 million EU deficit; excluding energy, the surplus was €9.33B.
- Import prices rose +0.2% MoM but fell -2.7% YoY, with steeper declines from non-eurozone countries (-3.4% YoY).

Italy’s exports fell -2.3% MoM and imports dropped -4.1% MoM in May 2025, with both sides of trade also lower YoY: exports down -1.9% and imports down -1.7%.
- The trade surplus was €6.16 billion in May, up from a surplus of €2.48 billion in April.
- Non-EU exports declined -3.1% MoM and -4.6% YoY, while EU exports slipped -1.7% MoM but rose +0.7% YoY.
- Non-EU imports fell -7.5% MoM and -3.4% YoY; EU imports were down -1.3% MoM and -0.4% YoY.
- Import prices declined -1.4% MoM and -3.0% YoY, with steeper drops from non-eurozone countries (-2.3% MoM, -3.7% YoY).
- Over the latest three-month period, import prices fell -1.7% from the previous quarter.

In April 2025, exports fell -2.8% MoM while imports rose slightly by +0.3% MoM (seasonally adjusted), leading to a trade surplus of €2.48 billion, down from a surplus of €4.71 billion. Compared to April 2024, exports rose +0.4% YoY and imports surged +5.4% YoY.
- Exports to EU countries rose +2.1% YoY, while exports to non-EU countries declined -1.4% YoY.
- Imports increased +11.5% YoY from non-EU countries and +0.8% YoY from the EU.
- Consumer goods exports grew +7.0% YoY, with non-durables up +11.4%, while capital goods exports declined -0.5% YoY.
- Energy trade remained a drag, with a deficit of -€3.4 billion in April and -€17.8B YTD.
- Excluding energy, the trade surplus reached €6.73 billion in April and €29.18B YTD.

Foreign trade and import prices decreased for exports (-1.0%) and rose slightly for imports (+0.2%) in March 2025 compared to February 2025.
- Exports to EU countries declined -5.0% MoM, while exports to non-EU countries increased +3.3% MoM.

Italy’s trade balance jumped from a deficit of €0.288 billion in January to a surplus of €4.466 billion in February, beating expectations of a trade surplus of €3.310 billion.
- Exports increased 3.5% MoM and 0.8% YoY, and imports saw a smaller increase to 1.7% MoM but were up 4.1% YoY.
- Exports to EU countries were up 3.7% MoM and to non-EU countries were up 3.2% YoY.
- Imports from EU countries increased 2.4% MoM but were only up 0.8% MoM from non-EU countries.
- Trade with the US has fallen off in the first two months of the year with exports to the US down -2.8% and imports from the down -6.1% in the same period in 2024.
- While US imports have fallen, imports from China are up 32.6% YoY in Jan-Feb 2025 vs 2024.

Italy’s trade balance fell to -€0.264 billion in January, a surprise decline from the €5.15 billion that was expected and the €5.82 billion balance in December.
- Exports increased 0.6% MoM and 2.5% YoY but were offset by a 3.2% MoM and a 8.8% YoY jump in imports.
- Imports from non-EU countries surged 18.0% YoY after a 3.6% MoM increase in January. EU imports were up just 2.8% MoM.

Italian international trade was €5.98 billion in December, above €4.22 billion in November and above the €4.35 billion forecast.
- Exports increased 1.9% MoM and 2.9% YoY, and imports fell -0.8% MoM but were up 1.7% YoY.
