Italy’s unemployment fell -71k (-4.2% MoM) in June 2025, bringing the jobless rate down -0.3 ppts to 6.3%, while employment rose slightly and inactivity increased.
- Employment increased +16k (+0.1% MoM), with gains among women and those under 35 and over 50; the employment rate held steady at 62.9%.
- Inactivity rose +69k (+0.6% MoM), lifting the inactivity rate to 32.8% (+0.2 ppts), driven by younger men.
- The youth unemployment rate dropped sharply to 20.1% (-1.4 ppts MoM).
- Over the Apr–Jun 2025 quarter, employment rose +93k (+0.4%), unemployment rose +20k (+1.2%), and inactivity fell -81k (-0.7%).
- Compared to June 2024, employment is up +363k (+1.5% YoY), unemployment is down -94k (-5.5%), and inactivity declined -142k (-1.2%).

Italy’s unemployment rose 113k, or 7.1% MoM, in May, pushing the unemployment rate up +0.4 ppts to 6.5%, while employment also increased and inactivity declined.
- Employment rose +80k (+0.3% MoM), with gains concentrated among those aged 50+ and both sexes; the employment rate rose to 62.9% (+0.2 ppts MoM, +0.8 ppts YoY).
- Inactivity fell sharply by -172k (-1.4% MoM), bringing the inactivity rate down -0.5 ppts to 32.6%.

Italy’s unemployment fell -48k (-3.1% MoM) in April 2025, bringing the unemployment rate down -0.2 ppts to 5.9% (vs 6.1% expected), while employment remained flat and inactivity rose slightly.
- The prime age employment rate was unchanged on a monthly basis but up 0.5 ppts over the last year.
- The prime age inactivity rate increased 0.1 ppts to 33.2% and was unchanged over the year.
- Youth unemployment dropped -1.2 ppts to 19.2%, while the inactivity rate rose +0.1 ppts to 33.2% (+39k).
- Employment gains among men and those aged 25–34 and 50+ offset declines in other groups, keeping the employment rate stable at 62.7%.
- On a quarterly basis (Feb–Apr), employment rose +0.4% (+96k), unemployment fell -3.4% (-55k), and inactivity declined -0.4% (-44k).
- Compared to April 2024, employment rose +1.2% YoY (+282k), unemployment fell -12.2% YoY (-209k), and inactivity edged up slightly (+14k).

Italy’s employment fell -16k in March, and the total number of unemployed increased 32k.
- The unemployment rate increased 0.1 ppts to 6.0% but is still down -0.9 ppts from a year ago.
- The prime age employment and inactivity rates remained unchanged at 63.0% and 32.9%, respectively.

Italy’s employment increased 47k in February, and the total number of unemployed fell -79k.
- The unemployment rate fell -0.3 ppts to 5.9% and was down -1.4 ppts over the last year.
- The prime age employment rate improved 0.1 ppts to 63.0%, and the prime age inactivity rate increased 0.1 ppts to 32.9%.
- On an annual basis, total employment is up 2.4% YoY while total unemployment has fallen -18.4% YoY. The inactive prime age population is down a much smaller -0.5% YoY.

Italy’s unemployment rate ticked down -0.1 ppts to 6.3% in January, slightly above expectations of a drop to 6.2%.
- The employment rate jumped 0.4 ppts to 62.8% as the inactivity rate fell -0.4 ppts to 32.9%.
- The total number of unemployed fell -9k to 1.62 million, and the number of employed jumped 145k, a 0.6% MoM increase, to 24.2 million.
- On an annual basis, employment is up 2.2% YoY and unemployment is down -10.7% YoY while the inactive population has fallen -1.3% YoY.

The Italian employment rate fell -0.1 ppts to 62.3%, and the unemployment rate jumped 0.3 ppts to 6.2% (vs 5.7% expected). Despite the monthly increase in unemployment, the rate is still down -0.9 ppts from a year ago. The inactivity rate fell -0.2 ppts to 33.5%. Essentially, the data suggests that previously inactive individuals entered the work force but most of them remained unemployed in December. This points to a significant cooling the labor market.

Italian employment fell -0.1% MoM or -13,000 in November, and the unemployment rate edged down -0.1 ppts to 5.7%, well below expectations of a 6.0% unemployment rate and the lowest on record.

The inactivity rate increased 0.1 ppts to 33.7% as the total number of inactive workers increased 0.2% MoM and 2.6% YoY. The total number of unemployed also fell, down -24,000, and has seen a sharp decline of -23.9% over the last year.
