While the consumer index improved, the business climate indicator fell -0.9 pts to 94.8.
- The manufacturing index saw a marginal improvement of 0.2 pts to 87.0 which was in stark contrast to the -1.5 pt drop to 97.5 in the services index.
- Sentiment in the construction (-0.8 pts to 103.4) and retail (-2.3 pts to 104.0) industries also declined.

Italy’s consumer confidence climate indicator improved 1.9 pts to 98.2 in January. The economic climate index jumped 5.2 pts to 101.3, faster than the personal climate index which only increased 0.7 pts to 97.1. The current climate index improved 1.2 pts to 99.8, and the future index improved 2.8 pts to 96.1.

Business confidence improved to a lesser extent, up just 0.4 pts to 95.7. Manufacturing managed a slight gain of 0.9 pts to 86.8 while services saw a slight decline of -0.6 pts to 99.0. Construction was the biggest gainer, up 3.3 pts to 104.2, and drove the headline index higher.
