German retail sales rose 1.0% MoM (vs 0.5% MoM expected) in real terms and 0.8% MoM in nominal terms in June 2025, rebounding from a revised -0.6% MoM real decline in May.
- On a YoY basis, retail sales were up 4.9% real and 5.8% nominal, marking strong annual growth.
- Food retail sales rose 0.3% MoM and 0.9% YoY in real terms, while nominal food sales grew 3.3% YoY.
- Non-food retail sales rose 1.8% MoM and 7.4% YoY in real terms, showing broader strength across categories.

German retail sales fell -1.6% MoM (vs 0.5% MoM expected) in real terms and -1.2% MoM in nominal terms in May, continuing the decline from April with the largest monthly drop since October 2022.

- March 2025 retail sales were revised up to +0.9% MoM in both real and nominal terms (from -0.2% and -0.1%, respectively).

German retail sales were up 0.8% MoM and 5.9% YoY in February. In real terms, sales were up 0.8% MoM and 4.9% YoY, well above expectations of no growth.
- The February annual increase in real sales was the largest since February 2022.
- Food sales (real) were up 0.8% MoM and 3.3% YoY.
- Non-food sales (real) were up 0.6% MoM and 5.2% YoY.
- Online orders (real) were up 1.0% MoM and 15.4% YoY.
- In the first two months of the year, real retail sales are 2.2% higher with food sales 1.3% higher and non-food sales 2.8% higher.

- Food sales were up 1.5% MoM, and non-food sales were down -0.2% MoM.
- On an annual basis, clothing sales are down -4.7% YoY, the weakest category by far.

German real retail sales dropped -1.6% MoM, much worse than the 0.2% MoM increase that was expected, but were still up 1.8% YoY (vs 2.5% YoY expected).
- Food sales dropped -1.7% MoM and -0.4% YoY, and non food sales were down -0.7% MoM but up 3.4% YoY. Overall, a weak holiday result for Germany.
- For the full year 2024, real sales were up 0.9% and nominal sales were up 2.3%.

Germany retail sales were down -0.6% MoM in both nominal and real terms in November, below expectations of an 0.5% MoM increase.
- On a YoY basis, November sales were up 2.5% YoY in real terms. Real food sales were up 2.7% YoY, and real non-food sales were up 2.5% YoY.
- The first estimate of retail sales in 2024 was an increase of 1.3% in real terms (1.1% after calendar adjustment) and 2.7% in nominal terms (2.5% after calendar adjustment).
