New passenger car registrations in Germany rose +12.8% YoY in September 2025 to 235,528 units, marking a solid rebound in one of the year’s strongest months.
- Registration type: Commercial registrations rose +10.7% YoY (65.8% share), while private registrations increased +17.1% YoY.
- German brands: MAN (+18.6%), VW (+16.2%), Mercedes (+10.6%), and Opel (+10.2%) posted double-digit growth; Smart (-24.9%) and MINI (-24.7%) recorded sharp declines. VW remained the top brand with a 19.2% share.
- Import brands: Citroën (+52.1%), Dacia (+39.5%), Renault (+30.9%), and Seat (+22.1%) led growth; Peugeot (-19.7%), Volvo (-8.8%), and Kia (-2.2%) saw declines. Škoda remained the leading import brand with an 8.0% share.
- By segment: SUVs remained dominant with 33.6% share (+21.4% YoY). Minis grew the fastest (+39.1%), followed by Utilities (+22.3%) and Compact Class (+15.2%). MPVs (-23.6%) and full-size cars (-14.4%) saw notable drops.
- Powertrains: BEV registrations rose +31.9% YoY to 45,495 units (19.3% share). Hybrids increased +28.9% YoY (41.3% share), including plug-in hybrids up +85.4% YoY (11.8% share). Petrol (-5.9%) and diesel (-7.2%) both declined, together making up 39.1% of new cars.
- Emissions: Average CO₂ output fell -8.8% YoY to 102.8 g/km, reflecting the growing share of electrified vehicles.
- Commercial vehicles: Bus and coach registrations surged +60.0% YoY, trucks rose +22.7%, and semitrailer tractors jumped +35.0%, while tractor units edged down -0.3%.
- Used market: Ownership transfers rose +5.9% YoY to 652,161 vehicles, with gains across most categories except buses (-6.0%).

New passenger car registrations in Germany rose +5.0% YoY in August 2025 to 207,229 units, with growth led by hybrids and BEVs, while traditional fuel types declined sharply.
- Commercial registrations rose +3.9% YoY to 64.4% share, while private registrations increased +7.4% YoY to 35.5% share.
- German brands with the strongest gains were MAN (+47.6% YoY), BMW (+15.3%), Audi (+13.2%), and Ford (+10.6%); VW rose +6.0% but remained the largest brand (18.1% share). Smart (-36.5%), Opel (-9.9%), Porsche (-9.7%), and Mercedes (-1.5%) posted declines.
- Import brands saw Seat (+20.1%) and Citroen (+36.0%) lead growth, while Peugeot (-12.1%), Kia (-11.5%), Hyundai (-7.2%), and Toyota (-6.6%) weakened.
- SUVs remained the largest segment (34.4% share, +12.8% YoY), while utilities (+42.4%) and minivans (+19.5%) posted the strongest growth. Mid-size (-11.5%) and full-size (-13.5%) cars recorded steep declines.
- Hybrid registrations rose +19.1% YoY to 39.8% share, including plug-in hybrids (+76.7%, 11.6% share). BEVs jumped +45.7% YoY to 19.0% share. Petrol (-18.2%) and diesel (-9.2%) registrations fell, together holding 40.7% share.
- Average CO₂ emissions from new passenger cars dropped -10.9% YoY to 105.0 g/km, reflecting the shift toward electrified vehicles.
- In the broader market, total motor vehicle registrations rose +3.5% YoY to 252,609, though motorcycles fell -23.8%. Used vehicle transactions declined -4.2% YoY to 607,291, with buses and coaches posting the steepest fall (-18.5%).

- Battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations jumped +58.0% YoY to 48,614 units (18.4% share), while hybrids rose +28.2% YoY (38.7% share); plug-in hybrids surged +83.6% YoY (10.3% share).

New passenger car registrations in Germany fell -13.8% YoY in June 2025 to 256,193 units, with both commercial (-15.5% YoY) and private (-10.2% YoY) segments declining.
- Battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations rose +8.6% YoY to 47,163 units (18.4% share), while hybrids climbed +12.5% YoY (38.6% share); plug-in hybrids surged +66.4% YoY (10.0% share).
- Gasoline and diesel car registrations dropped sharply by -34.6% and -32.3% YoY, with market shares of 28.5% and 13.9%, respectively.
- SUV registrations declined -2.8% YoY but remained the largest segment at 34.2% share; the compact class fell -31.1% YoY (16.6% share).
- CO₂ emissions from new cars fell -10.3% YoY to 107.1 g/km in June.
- Total vehicle registrations declined -16.6% YoY to 309,983 units; used vehicle ownership transfers edged down -0.4% YoY to 620,774 units.

In May 2025, new passenger car registrations in Germany rose +1.2% YoY to 239,297 units, breaking a six-month streak of annual declines.
- Commercial registrations rose +0.7% YoY (67.1% share), and private registrations increased +2.4% YoY (32.8% share).

In April 2025, new registrations of passenger cars in Germany were recorded at 242,728 units, a decline of -0.2% YoY which is the 6th straight YoY decline.
- 66.4% (-0.7% YoY) of new cars were registered commercially and 33.6% (+1.1 % YoY) privately.
- 27.5% of new registrations were attributable to gasoline cars, whose number decreased by -26.4% YoY. Electric vehicle registrations were up 53.5% YoY and accounted for 18.8% of new registrations.

- 66.7% (-6.0% YoY) of new cars were registered commercially and 33.3% (+0.5 % YoY) privately.
