France’s ILO unemployment rate rose to 7.9% in Q4 2025 (+0.2 pts QoQ, +0.6 pts YoY), marking a further increase in joblessness alongside mixed labor market dynamics.
- The number of unemployed people increased to 2.5 million (+56,000 QoQ), pushing the unemployment rate to its highest level since Q3 2021, though it remained well below the Q2 2015 peak by -2.6 pts.

- Men’s unemployment increased to 8.1% (+0.4 pts QoQ, +0.7 pts YoY), while women’s unemployment was broadly stable at 7.6% (-0.1 pts QoQ, +0.5 pts YoY), resulting in a widening gender gap over the quarter.
- The long-term unemployment rate held steady at 1.8% (0.0 pts QoQ, +0.1 pts YoY), remaining -0.4 pts below its end-2019 level and indicating limited deterioration among long-duration job seekers.
- The employment rate for ages 15–64 was unchanged at 69.4% (0.0 pts QoQ, +0.3 pts YoY), with declines among youth offset by continued gains among older workers, particularly those aged 55–64.
- The share of part-time employment increased to 17.9% (+0.2 pts QoQ, +0.4 pts YoY), while underemployment remained stable at 4.4%, both still below pre-pandemic levels.
- Labor force participation reached a new high of 75.4% (+0.2 pts QoQ, +0.8 pts YoY), driven by rising activity among youth and older workers, while the NEET rate for ages 15–29 increased to 12.9% (+0.4 pts QoQ, +0.2 pts YoY).
