Euro area retail trade volume rose +0.3% MoM in June 2025, rebounding from a -0.3% MoM decline in May. On a YoY basis, trade volume was up +3.1%, the strongest annual gain since January.
- Non-food product sales rose +0.6% MoM and +4.3% YoY, while automotive fuel increased +0.4% MoM and +4.0% YoY.
- Food, drinks, and tobacco sales increased +0.2% MoM and +1.7% YoY in the euro area.
- Croatia (+3.6% MoM), Sweden (+2.6%), and Malta (+2.2%) posted the strongest monthly gains.
- France (-0.9% MoM), Poland and Slovenia (both -0.8%) saw the steepest declines.
- On a YoY basis, Cyprus (+8.7%), Croatia (+7.4%), and Malta/Portugal (+6.9%) led gains, while Finland (-1.1%) and Slovakia (-0.4%) declined.

Euro area retail trade volume fell -0.7% MoM (vs -0.7% MoM expected) in May 2025 but rose +1.8% YoY (vs 1.2% YoY expected). This is the largest MoM drop since August 2023.
- Food, drinks, and tobacco sales declined -0.7% MoM (+0.5% YoY) in the euro area.
- Non-food product sales dropped -0.6% MoM but rose +2.4% YoY.
- Automotive fuel sales fell -1.3% MoM and increased +2.8% YoY.
- Sweden (-4.6% MoM), Belgium (-2.5%), and Estonia (-2.2%) had the sharpest monthly drops; Portugal (+2.1%) and Bulgaria (+2.0%) led gains.
- On a YoY basis, Cyprus (+7.9%), Bulgaria (+7.2%), and Luxembourg (+6.3%) saw the strongest growth; Finland (-2.2%) posted the steepest decline.

Euro area retail trade volume rose 0.1% MoM and 2.3% YoY in April 2025, showing continued modest annual growth; EU-wide figures were stronger at 0.7% MoM and 2.8% YoY.
- Food, drinks, and tobacco sales rose 0.5% MoM and 2.2% YoY in the euro area.
- Non-food product sales fell -0.3% MoM but increased 2.3% YoY.
- Automotive fuel sales rose 1.3% MoM and 2.9% YoY.
- Poland (+7.5% MoM), Slovakia and Sweden (+2.4% MoM) saw the strongest monthly gains; Germany (-1.1% MoM) had the largest drop.
- On a YoY basis, Cyprus (+7.7%), Estonia (+6.2%), and Sweden (+5.7%) led growth, while Luxembourg (-3.6%) posted the steepest decline.

Euro area retail trade volume fell -0.1% MoM (vs 0.0% MoM expected) in March but was up 1.5% YoY, continuing a modest upward trend on an annual basis.
- Food, drinks, and tobacco sales declined -0.1% MoM and rose 0.6% YoY.
- Non-food product sales (excluding fuel) fell -0.1% MoM but rose 2.3% YoY.
- Automotive fuel sales rose 0.4% MoM and were up 0.9% YoY.
- The largest MoM retail declines were in Slovenia (-2.0%), Estonia (-1.3%), and Slovakia (-0.9%), while Malta (+2.0%), Belgium and Croatia (both +1.4%) posted the strongest gains.
- On an annual basis, Luxembourg (+9.4%), Bulgaria (+5.4%), and Cyprus (+5.0%) led growth; Slovakia (-2.9%), Poland (-1.8%), and Italy (-1.4%) saw the largest declines.

Euro area retail sales increased 0.3% MoM and 2.3% YoY in February. The monthly rate was slightly below expectations of an 0.5% MoM increase but the annual rate was higher than 1.8% YoY projected.
- The January retail sales growth rate was revised up from -0.3% MoM to 0.0% MoM (and annual rate revised up from 1.5% YoY to 1.8% YoY).
- Food sales and non-food (ex-fuel) sales were both up 0.3% MoM.
- Auto fuel sales were up 0.2% MoM.
- On an annual basis, food sales were up 1.9% and non-food sales up 2.5%. Auto sales were up 0.7% YoY.

Euro area retail sales eased -0.3% MoM in January, below the estimate of an 0.1% MoM increase. The annual increase was 1.5% YoY, also below the estimate of 1.9% YoY.
- Food sales were up by 0.6% MoM.
- Non-food sales fell -0.7% MoM, and auto fuel sales fell -0.3% MoM.
- On an annual basis, food sales were up 1.4% YoY, and non-food sales were up 1.8% YoY (the lowest since July 2024).

Eurozone retail sales showed modest weakness in December, with volumes declining -0.2% MoM, below expectations of a -0.1% MoM decline. Despite the drop, the annual rate at 1.9% YoY was in line with expectations and up from 1.6% YoY in November.
- Food sector showed weakness as -0.7% MoM
- Non-food products grew modestly at 0.3% MoM
- Automotive fuel mostly flat at 0.2% MoM
- On an annual basis, non-food products led growth +3.1% YoY while food was much slower at 0.2% YoY
- Euro area retail volume increased 1.0% in 2024 compared to 2023

Euro area retail sales increased just 0.1% MoM in November, falling short of the projection of an 0.4% MoM increase. The annual rate decelerated from 2.1% YoY in October to 1.2% YoY. Food sales were basically flat at 0.1% MoM while a non-food sales decline of -0.6% MoM offset an increase in fuel sales of 0.8% MoM. The -0.6% MoM decline in non-food sales was the second straight monthly decline of that magnitude which suggests holiday spending in the euro area may have been weak.
