The euro area unemployment rate held steady at 6.2% in June 2025, unchanged from May (which was revised down from 6.3% to 6.2%) and down from 6.4% YoY; EU unemployment was also stable at 5.9% (vs 6.0% in June 2024).
- Unemployment in the euro area declined -62k MoM and -293k YoY to 10.70 million; EU unemployment fell -23k MoM and -125k YoY to 12.97 million.
- Youth unemployment in the euro area declined to 14.1% (-0.2 ppts MoM), while the EU youth jobless rate was unchanged at 14.7%.
- Youth unemployment dropped -34k MoM and -85k YoY in the euro area; in the EU, it fell -4k MoM and -25k YoY.
- The female unemployment rate fell to 6.0% in the EU (-0.1 ppts) and 6.4% in the euro area (-0.1 ppts), while male rates were stable at 5.7% (EU) and 6.0% (euro area).

The euro area unemployment rate rose +0.1 ppts to 6.3% (vs 6.2% expected) in May, up from 6.2% in April but down from 6.4% a year ago.
- Unemployment in the euro area increased by +54k MoM but declined -168k YoY to 10.83 million; EU unemployment rose +48k MoM to 13.05 million.
- Youth unemployment in the euro area rose to 14.4% (+0.1 ppts MoM), with youth joblessness up +13k MoM but down -36k YoY.
- The youth unemployment rate in the EU rose to 14.8% (+0.1 ppts MoM), with youth unemployment up +9k MoM and +3k YoY.
- In the euro area, the female unemployment rate was steady at 6.5%, while the male rate ticked up to 6.1% (+0.1 ppts MoM).
- In the EU, both male (5.7%) and female (6.1%) unemployment rates were unchanged from April.

The euro area unemployment rate fell -0.1 ppts to 6.2% in April, down from 6.3% in March and in line with expectations.
- The number of unemployed in the euro area declined -207k MoM and -343k YoY to 10.68 million.
- The EU-wide unemployment rate held steady at 5.9%, with total unemployment down -188k MoM and -217k YoY.
- Youth unemployment in the euro area fell -0.4 ppts to 14.4%, with a monthly decline of -74k.

The euro area unemployment rate was 6.2% in March, unchanged from February and slightly above expectations of a drop to 6.1%.
- The total number of unemployed increased 83k in the last month but was down -288k from a year ago.
- The youth unemployment rate was 14.2%, down from 14.3% previously.
- Youth unemployment fell -19k over the month and -43k over the last year.

The euro area unemployment rate fell -0.1 ppts to 6.1% in February, below expectations of a 6.2% reading.
- Total unemployment fell -70k to 10.58 million and was down -643k from a year ago.
- The youth unemployment rate was 14.2%, up 0.1 ppts from the previous month, and total youth unemployment increased 13k to 2.27 million (down -85k from a year ago).

The euro area unemployment rate came in below estimates at 6.2% in January, unchanged from December and better than the expectation of a 0.1 ppt increase to 6.3%.
- Total unemployment fell -42k to 10.66 million.
- Total youth unemployment increased just 3k to 2.26 million, and the youth unemployment rate actually fell -0.1 ppts to 14.1%, the lowest since June 2023.

The euro area labor market cooled a bit to end 2024. The unemployment rate increased 0.1 ppts to 6.3% in December as unemployment increased by 94k. However, from a year ago the unemployment rate is down -0.2 ppts and total unemployed is down -261k. Though the headline jobless rate increased, youth unemployment actually ticked lower by -0.1 ppts to 14.8%.

The euro area unemployment rate was unchanged at 6.3% (vs 6.3% expected) in November as total unemployment fell -39,000 and is down -333,000 from a year ago. This jobless rate is around all-time lows. The youth unemployment rate was also unchanged at 15.0%. Labor shortages remain a key upward pressure on labor costs, and therefore, HICP inflation.
