The euro area unemployment rate held at 6.3% (vs 6.3% expected) in September 2025 (unchanged MoM and YoY), while the EU rate was stable at 6.0% MoM and up slightly from 5.9% YoY, indicating overall labor market stability.
- The number of unemployed reached 11.00 million in the euro area (+65k MoM, +187k YoY) and 13.25 million in the EU (+63k MoM, +227k YoY).
- Youth unemployment stood at 14.4% in the euro area (+0.1 ppt MoM) and 14.8% in the EU (flat MoM), showing little change from recent months.

- Among adults, the EU unemployment rate remained 6.1% for women and 5.8% for men, both steady MoM.

- Overall, joblessness in both the EU and euro area showed minimal movement in September, with modest monthly increases offset by stable year-over-year comparisons.

The euro area unemployment rate rose slightly to 6.3% in August 2025 (from 6.2% in July) while remaining unchanged from August 2024; EU unemployment held steady at 5.9% MoM and YoY.
- The number of unemployed reached 10.84 million in the euro area (+11k MoM, -15k YoY) and 13.09 million in the EU (+39k MoM, +85k YoY).
- Youth unemployment stood at 14.6% in the EU (+0.2 ppts MoM, -147k YoY) and 14.0% in the euro area (flat MoM, -156k YoY).
- In August, 2.82 million young people were unemployed in the EU, of which 2.22 million were in the euro area.
- By sex, EU unemployment rates were 6.0% for women and 5.8% for men, both stable MoM; in the euro area, rates were 6.4% for women and 6.1% for men, also unchanged.

- Total unemployment fell -70k to 10.58 million and was down -643k from a year ago.

The euro area unemployment rate came in below estimates at 6.2% in January, unchanged from December and better than the expectation of a 0.1 ppt increase to 6.3%.
- Total unemployment fell -42k to 10.66 million.
- Total youth unemployment increased just 3k to 2.26 million, and the youth unemployment rate actually fell -0.1 ppts to 14.1%, the lowest since June 2023.

The euro area labor market cooled a bit to end 2024. The unemployment rate increased 0.1 ppts to 6.3% in December as unemployment increased by 94k. However, from a year ago the unemployment rate is down -0.2 ppts and total unemployed is down -261k. Though the headline jobless rate increased, youth unemployment actually ticked lower by -0.1 ppts to 14.8%.

The euro area unemployment rate was unchanged at 6.3% (vs 6.3% expected) in November as total unemployment fell -39,000 and is down -333,000 from a year ago. This jobless rate is around all-time lows. The youth unemployment rate was also unchanged at 15.0%. Labor shortages remain a key upward pressure on labor costs, and therefore, HICP inflation.
