Canada’s manufacturing sales rose 0.3% MoM in June 2025 to $68.5 billion, ending four straight monthly declines, but remained -2.7% YoY lower amid tariff impacts on key subsectors.
- In constant dollars, sales were flat MoM, while the Industrial Product Price Index rose 0.4%.
- Petroleum and coal product sales jumped 11.8% MoM (constant dollars +10.7%) on refinery restarts, but were down -14.5% YoY and -18.0% QoQ.
- Food product sales hit a record $13.2 billion, up 2.5% MoM and 0.5% QoQ, driven by meat and specialty foods.
- Transportation equipment sales fell -5.0% MoM, the lowest since Nov 2022, with motor vehicles down -9.4% MoM; tariffs weighed heavily on auto and aerospace exports.

Canada’s manufacturing sales fell -0.9% MoM and -4.1% YoY in May 2025 to $68.7 billion, the lowest level since January 2022, driven by weakness in petroleum (-8.4% MoM) and machinery (-2.7% MoM).
- In constant dollars, sales declined -0.7% MoM; the Industrial Product Price Index fell -0.5% MoM.
- Inventories rose 0.7% MoM to $120.3 billion; the inventory-to-sales ratio increased from 1.72 to 1.75, its highest since May 2020.
- Aerospace production rose 6.9% MoM, while unfilled orders fell -0.4% MoM, led by a -1.4% drop in aerospace.
- Sales in Alberta dropped -6.6% MoM and -9.3% YoY, while Quebec fell -2.3% MoM and -7.7% YoY.
- The manufacturing sector's capacity utilization rate rose to 78.6% (from 76.4%), with strong gains in non-metallic minerals, food, and chemicals.

Canada’s manufacturing sales fell -2.8% MoM (vs -2.0% MoM in the 1st estimate) and -2.7% YoY in April to $69.6 billion, the sharpest monthly decline since October 2023 and the lowest level since January 2022.
- Sales fell across key subsectors: petroleum and coal products (-10.9% MoM), motor vehicles (-8.3% MoM), and primary metals (-4.4% MoM).
- In constant dollars, sales dropped -1.8% MoM; the Industrial Product Price Index declined -0.8% MoM.
- Inventories fell -1.0% MoM to $119.0 billion, led by petroleum, metals, and transportation sectors; the inventory-to-sales ratio rose from 1.68 to 1.71.

Canada’s manufacturing sales fell for the second consecutive month, down -1.4% MoM but up 1.9% YoY in March to $71.9 billion (revised up from advance estimate of -1.9% MoM).
- Sales decreased in 13 of the 21 subsectors, led by the primary metal (-6.5% MoM) and petroleum and coal product (-4.2% MoM) subsectors.
- These declines were partly offset by an 11.9% MoM increase in sales of furniture and related products.
- In constant dollars, total sales declined -1.1% MoM in March, while the PPP rose 0.5% MoM.
- On a quarterly basis, sales increased 1.6% QoQ to $217.9 billion in the first quarter, following a 1.1% QoQ rise in the fourth quarter of 2024.
- The transportation equipment (+5.0% QoQ) and primary metal (+8.5% QoQ) subsectors contributed the most to the gain in the first quarter of 2025. Meanwhile, sales of chemical products posted the largest quarterly decline, down -3.6% QoQ to $15.8 billion.

Total manufacturing sales in Canada increased 0.2% MoM in February, up from the preliminary estimate of -0.2% MoM.
- The level of sales following the rise was the highest since September 2023 as sales increased in 11/21 subsectors.
- The subsectors with the largest increases were the primary metal (+8.3%) and chemical product (+6.7%) subsectors.
- Sales in the petroleum and coal product subsector fell -5.2% MoM, following four consecutive monthly increases. This decline was driven by lower demand and, to a lesser extent, lower prices, as sales on a constant dollar basis decreased -4.2% MoM.
- Total manufacturing inventories rose 0.8% to $122.0 billion in February, reaching the highest level since January 2024.
- The capacity utilization rate for the total manufacturing sector decreased from 78.7% in January to 77.3% in February.

- Sales were mainly higher on increases in the motor vehicle industry group (+11.1% MoM) as well as the petroleum and coal product subsector (+4.7% MoM).
- Chemical product sales declined the most, down -7.4% MoM to $5.0 billion in January. On a year-over-year basis, total manufacturing sales rose 3.0% in January.
- On a constant dollar basis, sales increased 0.9% MoM in January, while the Industrial Product Price Index rose 1.6% MoM.
- Total inventories rose 1.2% MoM to $121.2 billion in January, on higher raw material (+2.1% MoM) and finished product (+1.6% MoM) inventories.
