German unemployment rose by 65k to 2.979 million in July 2025, driven largely by seasonal factors related to the summer break. When seasonally adjusted, unemployment increased by just 2k (vs 15k expected).
- The unemployment rate was unchanged at 6.3% (vs 6.4% expected) and is up +0.3 ppts YoY.
- Underemployment fell -10k MoM (SA) to 3.609 million but remains +31k higher than July 2024.
- Employment declined -19k MoM (SA) in June; YoY employment was down -9k overall.

German unemployment rose 34k (vs 10k expected) on a seasonally adjusted basis in May, the largest increase since January, while the job vacancy count and underemployment both declined.
- The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held at 6.3% for the fourth consecutive month, staying in line with expectations.
- Total unemployment has increased 197k, and the unemployment rate is up 0.4 ppts in the last year.
- Underemployment (excluding short-time work) declined -2k, after a +1k increase in April, but is up 58k vs a year ago.

German unemployment according to Bundesagentur für Arbeit rose 4k (vs 20k expected) on a monthly seasonally adjusted basis in April, the smallest increase since August 2024.
- The unadjusted headline unemployment number declined -36,000 to 2.932 million.

German unemployment according to Bundesagentur für Arbeit increased 26k in March, above expectations of a 10k increase and the largest monthly increase since October 2024.
- The unemployment rate increased 0.1 ppt to 6.3% when it was expected to remain unchanged at 6.2%.
- Not seasonally adjusted data showed unemployment down -22k. Compared to a year ago, the total number of unemployed individuals was up 198k.
- Total underemployment increased by 13k and was up 97k from a year ago.

The German unemployment rate (given by Bundesagentur) increased from 6.1% in December to 6.2% in January, in line with analysts expecting a slight cooldown in the labor market and the highest since October 2020. The total number of unemployed increased by 11k, and the total number of employed grew 5k. Job vacancies saw another moderate decline at -9,000.
