Brazil’s GDP grew 1.4% QoQ in Q1 2025, accelerating from 0.2% QoQ in Q4 2024 and in line with expectations. On an annual basis, GDP was up 2.9% YoY (vs 3.2% YoY expected), slowing slightly from 3.6% YoY previously.
- Agriculture activity saw a strong gain of 12.2% QoQ and was the main driver of growth.
- Services saw a smaller gain of 0.3% QoQ while industry contracted slightly at -0.1% QoQ.
- Among services (which accounts for about 70% of the economy), information & communication (+3.0% QoQ) and real estate (+0.8% QoQ) saw the strongest growth.
- Within industry, manufacturing contracted -1.0% QoQ and constructed fell -0.8% QoQ.
- In terms of demand, household consumption increased 1.0% QoQ and GFCF jumped 3.1% QoQ while government consumption only increased 0.1% QoQ.
- Exports increased 2.9% QoQ, but that was offset by an increase in imports of 5.9% QoQ.
