Australia’s trade balance widened to $5.37 billion (vs $3.25 billion expected) in June 2025, up from $1.60 billion in May, as exports surged and imports fell sharply.
- Exports rose +6.0% MoM (+$2.52 billion), driven by a +36.7% MoM jump in non-monetary gold; general merchandise exports rose +2.6%.
- Imports fell -3.1% MoM (-$1.24 billion), led by a -9.1% decline in capital goods and a -5.5% drop in consumption goods.
- Within consumption goods, non-industrial transport equipment plunged -21.0% MoM.
- Capital goods n.e.s. dropped -31.7%, and industrial transport equipment fell -16.2%.
- Intermediate goods were broadly flat (-0.3% MoM), with processed industrial supplies down -3.6%.
