- Goods spending increased 0.8% MoM, led by clothing and footwear, vehicles, and recreational goods.

- Services spending increased +1.5% MoM, led by health, recreation, catering, and accommodation.
- Goods spending fell -1.1% MoM, driven by lower spending on vehicles, clothing, and tobacco.
- Discretionary spending declined -0.2% MoM, while non-discretionary spending rose +0.6% MoM.
- Category gains included hotels/cafes/restaurants (+2.2% MoM), health (+1.6%), and recreation/culture (+1.1%).

Household spending fell -0.3% MoM in March 2025, with the trend indicating a 0.2% MoM increase and a 3.7% YoY increase.
- Spending in volume terms remained unchanged QoQ but increased 0.9% YoY.
- Six of nine spending categories saw decreases, with the largest declines in alcoholic beverages and tobacco (-2.6%), hotels, cafes and restaurants (-1.1%), and transport (-0.5%).
- Goods spending increased 0.1% MoM, driven by increased spending on food, household appliances, vehicles, and recreation goods.
- Services spending fell -0.7% MoM, primarily due to decreases in accommodation, transport, and health services.
- Discretionary spending fell -0.4% MoM, influenced by declines in tobacco, accommodation, alcoholic beverages, and recreational services.

Australian household spending increased 0.2% MoM and 3.3% YoY in February, mostly unchanged from the 3.2% YoY increase in January.
- Goods spending increased 0.3% MoM and 1.7% YoY, and services spending was unchanged monthly but still up 5.2% YoY.
- Discretionary spending increased 0.3% MoM and 2.7% YoY, and non-discretionary spending fell -0.1% MoM but was still up 4.4% YoY.
- The largest increases in spending were in the following categories: recreation and culture (+0.9% MoM), food (+0.6% MoM), and hotels, cafes and restaurants (+0.5% MoM).

Australian household spending saw a solid increase in December, rising to the highest annual increase since March 2024:
- Overall household spending up 0.4% MoM and 4.3% YoY with goods spending up 0.4% MoM and 4.4% YoY (highest since March 2024) and services spending up 0.3% MoM and 4.2% YoY
- Discretionary spending grew 0.6% MoM 4.6% YoY in December, up from 2.8% YoY in November. Non-discretionary spending growth was -0.2% MoM and 3.7% YoY, slightly slower than 3.8% YoY previously.
- Inflation may have had a large part to play in the increases in spending. In Q4 2024, real household spending was only up 1.4% YoY (though this is up from 0.2% YoY in Q3 2024).
